Information
Tom grew up in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin before heading East in 9th grade to attend the Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, CT. There, he began his career as a photographer before going on to the School of the Museum of Fine Arts and Tufts University, where he studied with such photographers as Jim Dow and Bill Burke. At the SMFA Tom also studied filmmaking. For his thesis, he directed the short film Pretender's Dance, which premiered at the Jackson Hole Film Festival.
Since graduation Tom worked as a production assistant on The Manchurian Candidate, and then as Jonathan Demme's second assistant during post-production, where he had a hand in choosing bands for the film's soundtrack. After this he worked for Cinematographer Ellen Kuras. Tom also created "The Blackout Film Festival", which was featured in the New York Times. He currently lives in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.
